The Hunterian is a cozy bar on New York's Upper East Side serving excellent whisky, beer & great cocktails.
The name "Hunterian" is the legacy of Scottish Doctors William & John Hunter.
Older Brother William (1718 - 1783) was a pioneering obstetrician and teacher with a passion for collecting. He found fame and fortune as a teacher of anatomy. He lavished his wealth on building up the vast private collection which he bequeathed to the University of Glasgow in 1783.
John Hunter (1728-1793) went to London in 1748 at the age of 20 and worked as an assistant in the anatomy school of William, who was already an established physician and obstetrician. John Hunter is today remembered as a founder of `scientific surgery’.
